Waldorf just announced the availability of the Streichfett String Synthesizer. The Streichfett String Synthesizer is a tabletop synth that produces string sounds reminiscent of string synths from the 70s. If you like the music from 70s porn, this synth is for you. Read more below.

REMAGEN, GERMANY: having opened many eyes and ears when being premiered at Musikmesse 2014 in Frankfurt, Germany, top quality synthesizer designer Waldorf is glad to announce accessibility of the Streichfett String Synthesizer– effectively bringing back to life the vanished string synthesizer sounds of the past with a modern-day music spin– since July 25 …

Back in the Seventies and early-Eighties, musicians wishing to make (not always authentic-sounding) string sections typically resorted to so-called string machines utilizing leading octave divider technology to create polyphonic pitch for every key played. Popular in their heyday, these distinctive-sounding string synths could be heard across classic recordings by both electronic music innovators, prog rockers, and pop acts of the moment– think French synth showman Jean-Michel Jarre’s multi- million-copy-selling Oxygene, and even adult motion pictures of a similar vintage– think German synthmeister Klaus Schulze’s soundtrack to Bodylove, yet perished a death when even more authentic-sound innovation took grip. Now Waldorf has successfully brought back to life those extinct string synthesizer sounds of the past with a modern music spin thanks to the Streichfett Strand Synthesizer, a colorful desktop component that certainly stands out much from the music group!

Nobody is better qualified, then, to touch after the whys and wherefores of string machine rebirth (with a salute and a wink) compared to Waldorf Music CTO Stefan Stenzel:

“We had a string machine in our workplace, and, although it wasn’t working properly, we enjoyed playing it. Everything sounded like it could possibly act as a soundtrack to an Eighties ‘sensual’ motion picture! We thought it would be fun to develop something comparable, so we listened to numerous various string machines to find out the sweet places of each specific machine. Quickly the name ‘Streichfett’ stuck, and we determined to revive the vanished types of string synthesizers.”

Price $375 USD
