The CLA-10A Limited Edition pays homage to a legendary passive studio mainstay. Avantone Pro’s CLA-10 accurately recreates the original design, providing musicians with a remarkable mixing tool that exposes recording imperfections. However, unlike its passive predecessor, the CLA-10A Limited Edition is self-powered, eliminating the need for an external power amp.
Avantone Pro’s endeavor to maintain the classic reference tone while enhancing its appearance was achieved through meticulous engineering. Aftermarket components for the original ‘white cone’ studio reference monitor became scarce and expensive. Avantone Pro took on the challenge of recreating these components with precision, incorporating modern environmental standards.
Key components of the CLA-10A Limited Edition include the AV10-MHF 3.5 cm soft dome tweeter and the AV10-MLF 18 cm cone woofer. Avantone Pro employed advanced engineering techniques to match the phenolic resin doping and mechanical parts of the original drivers while upgrading the production process. The result is a faithful recreation of the iconic white-cone speaker, providing matched sonic pairs.
One notable feature of the CLA-10A Limited Edition is the Variable Tissue Paper Control (VTPC) on the rear panel. Inspired by vintage studio practices, VTPC allows users to simulate high-frequency damping by covering the tweeters with tissue paper. Users can recreate different damping effects, from the ‘M’ model to the ‘Studio’ model, providing flexibility and convenience.
The CLA-10A Limited Edition maintains a traditional approach with a linear power supply featuring a toroidal transformer, preserving the sought-after legacy sound. It utilizes a monolithic Class AB amplifier, boasting low THD levels for exceptional audio performance. With a robust 240W total RMS full-range stereo pair system, it ensures high-quality sound reproduction across the entire musical spectrum.
